PRACTICE
FROM RESEARCH TO PRACTICE
The PrescribingVR Lab was founded to explore how virtual reality (VR) can be used to improve health, well-being, and quality of life across healthcare settings. Through clinical studies, implementation research, and partnerships with care organizations, our team investigates how VR can support older adults, caregivers, families, and healthcare providers.
Research helps us understand what works, for whom, and under what circumstances. But generating evidence is only part of the journey. Translating research findings into practical, scalable solutions is equally important.
BRIDGING THE GAP
As our research program grew, we identified a need for tools and resources that could help organizations implement evidence-informed VR programs in real-world care settings.
This led to the development of caregiVR, a platform designed specifically to support the use of virtual reality in senior care. caregiVR draws upon insights generated through years of research on engagement, social connection, well-being, usability, behavioural care, and caregiver support.
While the PrescribingVR Lab focuses on research and knowledge generation, caregiVR focuses on implementation and impact.
A CONTINUOUS CYCLE OF LEARNING
Research and practice inform one another.
Research findings help shape the design and delivery of caregiVR. At the same time, real-world implementation generates new questions, insights, and opportunities for future research.
This creates a continuous cycle:
Research → Implementation → Evaluation → New Research
By connecting research with practice, we aim to accelerate the responsible adoption of virtual reality in senior care and ensure that innovation remains grounded in evidence and the needs of older adults, caregivers, and care teams.
